A century of cars, all of them tired

Eleven hand-drawn silhouettes span 1920s jalopies to angular electric trucks. The 1990s bulk is deliberately common — that is the decade this collection is really about. Both ends of the timeline are scarce.

Worse is rarer

Most collections reward the pristine one. This one does the opposite: age and decay carry 82% of the score. A clean modern EV is the most common thing on the lot. A 1920s jalopy that has stopped being a car is the top of the book.

Scores are not capped at 100. A ceiling would tie the rarest tokens together exactly where rank matters most, so the scale runs past it — 6.5 at the bottom, 108.8 at the top, median 51.3.

Tier cutoffs were calibrated against the real score distribution, not guessed. Every tier lands within a fraction of a percent of its target share.

What actually exists today: this repository generates the artwork and the ERC-721 metadata. Nothing here touches a chain. There is no deployed contract, no mint, and no market. The $CLUNKER supply, the burn cost and the intended Tesla-stock pairing are specification — decisions written down, not shipped code. The metadata's image field still points at a placeholder CID awaiting a pin.

Process

How one gets drawn

  • 01Seed. The token id hashes into a seeded PRNG. Same id, same car, every time — the collection is reproducible from the source alone.
  • 02Silhouette. One of eleven hand-authored body outlines, all sharing a canvas and a single ground line, so the whole fleet sits on one horizon.
  • 03Arches. Wheel openings are masked out of the body so the tyres tuck into real arches instead of sitting under a slab.
  • 04Rust. A ragged tide-line creeps up from the rockers, blooms at the lower arch corners, and streaks downward — rust follows where water sits, not random spots.
  • 05Damage. Dents are crease pairs, not stains. Paint loses chroma before it loses value. Past Barely Legal the rust eats through, the front end crumples and the headlamp goes dark.
  • 06Scene. One of nine backdrops, then a grain and vignette pass over the whole frame.

The obvious ones

Why is a wrecked car worth more than a clean one?

Because that is what the collection is about. Age contributes 40% of the score and condition 42%, so a 1924 jalopy that has been totaled outscores a garage-kept EV by roughly seventeen to one. There are 11 tokens that are both Jalopy and Totaled.

Can two cars be identical?

There are 6,387 unique trait combinations across 6,399 tokens. Twelve tokens repeat an earlier trait set and the largest cluster is two. Exactly one pair matches on every trait including year — and even those two render differently, because damage placement is drawn from each token's own seed.

What is the art, technically?

A 1024×1024 SVG per token, roughly 48 KB each, plus a rasterized PNG. No bitmaps, no AI image generation — every car is drawn by code from hand-authored path geometry.

Is this minted? Can I buy one?

No. There is no contract, no mint and no market. This is the generator, the finished artwork and the metadata. Everything about the token economics is written specification.

What does the compile cost do?

20,000 $CLUNKER is burned per car. If all 6,399 are compiled that removes 127,980,000 tokens, 12.8% of the one billion supply.
